Viajecio majo: Estambul (parte 3)

Y llegamos a nuestra última etapa del viaje: Estambul. Tres noches en una ciudad increíble. Nos alojamos en un hostal muy recomendable por situación y ambiente: Chillout Papillon. Un edificio completo remodelado para ofrecer habitaciones sencillas, baratas, sin pretensiones y muy cerca de la Torre Galata. Desde la azotea ves el Cuerno de Oro cuajado de casas y mezquitas. Perfecto.

Estambul sería comparable a Barcelona en nuestro país. Moderna, cosmopolita, crisol de culturas y con una pretensión clara de modernizarse. Ciudad de músicos y artistas, nos sorprendió por sus contrastes y contradicciones. La zona europea parece una mezcla de Lisboa y Barcelona (tiendecitas, edificios clasicistas, decadencia romántica...) pero también cuenta com amplias zonas más conservadoras e incluso manifiestamente islámicas.

Visitamos los lugares ineludibles: Santa Sofía, La Mezquita Azul, El Palacio Topcapi, La cisterna de Yerebatan... y las zonas de ebullición, especialmente Taksim con sus tiendecitas y teterías.

Como vivimos en  una ciudad no muy grande Estambul nos pareció increíble, llena de gente y ambiente. Tienen locales de música en edificios antiguos (a diferentes alturas) y no cuentan con restricciones como el nivel de sonido nocturno, por lo que hay mucha actividad musical en la calle y los locales con conciertos y recitales en directo. Genial.

Os recomendamos visitarla si aun no habéis estado. Vale mucho la pena.

Finally, we've reached our last part of the trip: Istanbul! It were three nights in an amazing city. We stayed in a highly recommendable hostel due to its situation and environment: Chillout Papillon. This is an entire building remodeled to single rooms. They are cheap, unpretentious and very close to the Galata Tower. From the rooftop you can see the Golden Horn bay crowed with houses and mosques. Perfect!

Istanbul could be compared to Barcelona, if we compare it to Spain. It's Modern, cosmopolitan, a melting pot with a clear mindset to a furious modernization. It's a city of musicians and artists. We surely were  surprised by the contrasts and contradictions: the European part of Istambul seems a mixture of Lisbon and Barcelona (shops, buildings classicist, romantic decadence ...), other areas were clearly more conservative and even strictly Islamic.

We visited unavoidable places: Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Topcapi Palace, The Yerebatan tank ... and other hot zones, especially Taksim with its shops and tea houses.

We live in a relatively small city. Istambul looked like a burst of people and groove. The old buildings are full of music cafes (sometimes at different levels) and there is no restrictions in what sound level is concerned. So there is much more musical activity in the streets, local concerts and live performances. Great!

We strongly recommend Istambul if you haven't been there yet. It is very worth while.
